This is a great project idea to make for yourself , your family, as a gift or even to make with your kids. It’s easy to do, fast to make and can be made completely by hand!

Materials

Orange Felt
Lace Felt
2 buttons
2 hair ties

Steps

Measure your favourite mug as shown below. It’s height, width until just before the handle and length between the handle.

In this case, the main measurements for the paper template will be 9cm x 24cm (3 1/2 x 9 1/2 inches) and 2 x 9 cm (3/4 x 3 1/2 inches) . Cut the paper following these measurements and test on the mug if it fits.

Once done, we can now determine the measurements for the felts. The main orange felt needs to be 1 cm lower in height as it needs to be lower than the edge as we need to allow space for drinking. The lace felt needs to be slightly smaller than the orange felt. Finally , we need 2 of the small orange pieces which joins the mug cosy together.

The final felt measurements are as follows;

8 x 24 cm (3 x 9 1/2 inches) Orange Felt
7 x 23 cm (2 3/4 x 9 inches) Lace Felt
2 x 9 cm (3/4 x 3 1/2 inches) x 2 Orange Felt

Cut all the pieces.

Place the lace felt in the middle of the orange felt . Sew an overcast stitch all around the edges attaching it to the orange felt as shown.Do not sew one side of the width .

Place the hair ties in the middle of each of the smaller orange felt pieces. Fold in half and insert in between the orange and lace felt at the width that was not sewn. Please ensure that they are positioned accurately where one will go through and the other under the handle of the the mug.

Once confirmed , continue to sew all the pieces together at the width as shown.
